Mini vs. Full Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty) – Las Vegas
Tummy tucks are so popular because many women after having kids, after weight loss or simply from aging have resistant skin and fat around the belly and around the waist line that doesn’t respond to diet and exercise.
Fully tummy tucks are the most common treatment that we perform because it gets the abdominal wall as flat and as tight as possible. You’re able to remove as much skin and as much fat as we need to from the belly button down to that pubic hairline so that the majority of stretch marks and loose skin is completely gone.
And that patient will have a nice, flat belly in their clothes and in swimsuits. Candidates for mini tummy tucks are much less common and the reason for that is because most of those patients already look great in a bikini.
A mini tummy tuck only allows about an inch or two of skin removal just above the pubic hairline, which means that any loose skin or any stretch marks in or around the belly button or above it will not be addressed by a mini tummy tuck.
So even though it sounds very appealing, a mini tummy tuck is going to provide a very mini result, which means that when the patient is sitting down, there’s still going to be the majority of that skin excess present.
The other issue with mini tummy tucks that we can sometimes run into is little dog ears or little darts in the skin that can occur to either side of the shorter scar, and that can sometimes necessitate dog ear revision which means lengthening the scar toward the hip to get everything to lie nice and flat. And the problem is many of the mini tummy tuck patients end up with a fairly long scar, almost close to the length of a full tummy tuck scar, but it didn’t get them a full tummy tuck.
